Nintendo Switch Pro? Switch+? Something new!

NEW Nintendo Switch model is on the way and is expected to drop in the summer 2019 (which isn’t that far away)

Take your guesses, however exciting now. They are speculated to not be too thrilling in my opinion.

First of all, why do we need an updated system?

Manufacturers don’t do this just to update a system, they do it to increase sales. Nintendo noticed a decrease in the amount of sales they were making on the switch and noticed that they were much lower than when it first came out.

Other manufacturers do keep the strength of the system in mind when they release a new system, such as Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PS4.

Microsoft came out with the Xbox One X to deal with the frame rate issues that it’s predecessor did. The same is true for Sony.

So we can expect a full overhaul of the Switch… right?

Nope. Speculators like BeatEmUps predict that Nintendo will “sidegrade” the console. Instead of a full on overhaul like with the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, Nintendo will opt for a brother system instead of a predecessor like Microsoft and Sony.

Nintendo has done this before with the DS but reduced the cost of the handheld device. For example, the comparison between the 3DS and the 2DS. The only difference was the 3D display that was present on the 3DS that no one used anyways.

So then what are we predicted to get?

We are expected to get an updated CPU and GPU combo that will reduce power consumption while keeping the quality high. The screen is also predicted to be larger as well since the current Nintendo Switch has about a centimeter of bezel to work with.

The reason we aren’t expecting an overall larger size in the switch is because it would create 2 different types of joy-cons, one set for the larger one and one set for the smaller system.

We aren’t expecting a more upgraded CPU or GPU because that would increase the overall size of the system. Meaning it would need a better cooling solution and the whole chain continues and leads to having a larger system.

Well that sucks…

Unfortunately yeah, it does. On one hand, you can go ahead and feel safe in buying one this black Friday or getting one for Christmas without the fear of it being out shined in 6 months. On the other hand, we aren’t getting more demanding games. This means that we aren’t getting higher quality games either. Since the screen of the switch is 720p, and upgrading that to 1080p will also increase the size.

As you can see, there are lots of sacrifices to keep the controller’s not confusing and to stay consistent with the size. Nintendo’s history backs them up.
